HARRISONBURG, Va. – The University of Delaware men’s soccer team surrendered the game’s only goal with five minutes left in regulation on the road against James Madison Saturday night. The win for JMU was Dukes’ head coach Tom Martin’s 300th career win, and Delaware Head Coach Ian Hennessy was quick to congratulate him.

“It was a very entertaining game tonight with a great crowd on hand. We had two posts and had a couple cleared off the line that could have won it for us. In the end, JMU also had opportunities to win. It was a good evening for Tom Martin, so congrats to Tom for what he has meant to their program,” Hennessy said.

Delaware took a respectable 13 shots on the night, but a very motivated JMU team doubled the Hens up in that category for the night, taking 19 shots in the second half alone.

Freshman defender Craig Aitken (at right) anchored a stout Delaware defense and Blue Hen keeper Conrad Rusnak saved 12 shots on the night, but at the 85:03 mark, CJ Sapong took a shot from just three yards out and put it inside the left post for the gamewinner. He was assisted on the play by Andrew Harvey and Nick Zimmerman.

Delaware (1-7-2, 0-2 CAA) has had five of its seven losses come by just one goal. JMU improved to 5-3-2, 2-1 CAA.
