BROOKLINE, Mass. – The University of Delaware men’s soccer team was eliminated from Colonial Athletic Association playoff contention Wed. afternoon as the Blue Hens fell to CAA foe Northeastern, 1-0.
The match was scoreless through 80 minutes as Conrad Rusnak (UD) had three saves and Scott Partridge (NU) had four, but Northeastern’s Mike Kennedy beat Rusnak at 80:26 off a pass by Nick Lueders for the game’s only goal.
Delaware fell to 2-12-3, 1-7-1 (CAA) and Northeastern improved to 6-4-6, 4-2-3 (CAA).
The Huskies outshot the Hens 19-9 and took seven corners to just two by the Hens. Leading Delaware was sophomore midfielder John Scheer (at right), who took five shots on the afternoon.
The Hens have now been shut out seven games this season and 17 games in the last two seasons.
Delaware has yet to make the six-team CAA playoff since joining the league in 2002. In that span, the Hens are 7-36-6 in conference games.
