LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Freshman forward Andy Streilein (at right) scored with a little over eight minutes left in regulation and forced a 2-2 tie for the Blue Hens on the road against Rider on Sunday afternoon.

With the two-goal output today, the Hens have already tied the amount of goals they scored all season last year. The improvement is there, but what Head Coach Ian Hennessy would really like is for the Hens (1-4-1) to put one in the win column.

"With the amount of possession, it is a wonder that we only scored two today," Hennessy said. "But keeping a clean sheet continues to elude us at the moment."

The Hens took a 1-0 advantage into halftime on a goal by Jon Scheer from eight yards out, 16 minutes into the game. He was assisted by Darren Christie on the goal.

But Rider’s Andrew Cotes and Evan Lubcher went to work in the second half. Cotes scored in the 53rd and 58th minute, both times on assists from Lubcher.

Just when it looked like Delaware would suffer another second half blunder, Streilein put in a loose ball from 10 yards out at the 81:56 mark to tie the game 2-2 and force overtime.

Neither team would score in the two ten-minute overtime periods, and they would both settle for a tie.

Delaware begins its conference schedule against the pre-season favorite, Old Dominion at the Delaware Mini-Stadium Friday night. Old Dominion is riding a streak of six NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament appearances.
