BALTIMORE, Md. - The University of Delaware men's soccer team fell to College Soccer News top-30 team Loyola (Md.) 1-0 in a pre-season scrimmage Sunday afternoon at Loyola. Loyola managed just one early goal, as the Blue Hens, fresh off a pre-season no. 11 Colonial Athletic Association coaches poll ranking, were right with the Greyhounds the rest of the way.
Conrad Rusnak (at right) played the whole game in net, allowing just the one goal. Delaware seems to be picking up right where it left off defensively. The Blue Hens allowed one or less goals nine games during the 2007 season.
Third-year head coach Ian Hennessy said this was a good chance for his squad to see where it is before the season begins.
"We continue to learn about ourselves. There were a lot of positives and some aspects that we need to continue to work on over the next week."
Delaware begins the 2008 season Aug. 29 at Rutgers before it comes home to take on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's Marist Red Foxes on Sept. 1.
