RICHMOND, Va. -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s soccer teams placed goalkeepers Brandon Paul and Annie Bevan atop the weekly Colonial Athletic Association awards announced Monday. Paul, a freshman, was named the men’s soccer rookie of the week after posting shutouts against La Salle University and James Madison University, while Bevan, a senior, also notched a pair of shutouts against the College of William & Mary and Old Dominion University, earning a co-player of the week title.

Paul (at right) posted back-to-back shutouts as Delaware (4-6 overall, 1-1 CAA) blanked the Explorers, 2-0, on Tuesday before upsetting the Dukes, 1-0, on Saturday. He made four saves against La Salle and stopped five shots versus JMU. In doing so, Paul lowered his GAA to 0.95 for the season.

Having started the past five games for the Hens, Paul has tallied a record of 3-2, and recorded 20 saves in his 471:35 in goal.

Notching her fifth and sixth shutouts of the season over CAA opponents W&M and ODU, Bevan made a total of 10 saves in goal amidst the week’s action. Bevan made four saves against the Tribe, helping Delaware (4-3-3 overall, 1-1-2 CAA) to a 1-0 win on Friday, and made six saves in the 110 minutes of action against the Lady Monarchs that ended in a 0-0 stalemate on Sunday.

Bevan has started each of the Hens’ 10 games in 2009, to record 42 saves in 934:01 of action. Her performance has earned her a 0.67 GAA.

Bevan shared the weekly award with UNC Wilmington’s Megan Novak who scored a pair of game-winning goals to lead the Seahawks to two CAA road victories.

Paul’s recognition is the first received by a Delaware men’s soccer player since junior goalie Conrad Rusnak was honored on Nov. 5, 2007 with the same award, while Bevan’s is the first on the women’s side since senior Caitlyn Germain was named player of the week on Oct. 19, 2008.
