University of Delaware Places 51 Student-Athletes on CAA Fall Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll; Six Honored from Men's Soccer

RICHMOND, Va. -- The University of Delaware has placed 51 student-athletes on the 2009 Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner’s Fall Academic Honor Roll announced by the league office.

Athletes from the 12 CAA institutions in the six league-sponsored fall sports of men’s soccer, women’s soccer, field hockey, volleyball, men’s cross country, and women’s cross country were honored for their academic accomplishments.

Student-athletes must have competed for their team during the fall and posted a 3.2 or better grade point average either for the fall semester or for their cumulative college career. Recipients for football were announced last week and winners from the winter and spring sports will be announced in May.

Delaware had at least six student-athletes honored on each of the teams and had 35 athletes post a 3.5 or better gpa for the fall semester, including seven with a perfect 4.0 mark.

Student-athletes who earned perfect 4.0 grade point averages this past fall were graduate student Caitlyn Germain (St. Peter-Marian/Auburn, Mass.) and freshman Polly Reinicker (A.I. duPont/Hockessin, Del.) from women’s soccer; senior Lizzie Lewis (Tower Hill/Newark, Del.) from the CAA champion field hockey team; sophomore Jessie Ermak (Newark/Newark, Del.), freshman Katy Loughran (Strath-Haven/Wallingford, Pa), and junior Christine Sloat (Shenendehowa/Ballston Lake, N.Y.) from women’s cross country; and senior Kevin Kemmerle (Dover/Dover, Del.) from men’s cross country.

Also among the honorees were All-CAA selection Chris Bourke (Strath-Haven/Wallingford, Pa.) from men’s cross country; All-CAA selections Stephanie Barry (Wilson/Long Beach, Calif.) and Jess Chason (Cabarrus/Harrisburg, N.C.) from the CAA regular season co-champion volleyball team; All-CAA choices Germain and Annie Bevan (Owen J. Roberts/Spring City, Pa.) from the women’s soccer team; ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA second team Academic All-American Kyle Davis (Salesianum/Hockessin, Del.) from men’s soccer; and ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA District 2 All-Academic selection Megan Delaney (Damascus/Gaithersburg, Md.) from women’s soccer.

Women’s cross country led the way for Delaware with 15 award recipients (55 percent of the roster) followed by women’s soccer with eight (32 percent), field hockey with eight (31 percent), cross country with eight (44 percent), volleyball with six (50 percent), men’s soccer with six (30 percent).

Men’s Cross Country (8): Ed Bonnevie, Chris Bourke, Gregg Cantwell, Aidan Galasso, Mitch Kastoff, Kevin Kemmerle, Nick Pyle, Phil Weigel.

Men’s Soccer (6): Kyle Davis, Ben Raymond, Ben Rodkey, Conrad Rusnak, Jonathan Scheer, Michael Stone

Volleyball (6): Alissa Alker, Stephanie Barry, Jessica Chason, Greta Gibboney, Michelle LaLonde, Renee Tomko.

Women’s Cross Country (15): Lexi Ambrogi, Lindsay Chetelat, Katie Deinert, Jessie Ermak, Isabel Graf, Stephanie LaFergola, Ali Lambert, Katy Loughran, Karen Mandrachia, Amanda McGowan, Kaylee Pineault, Sarah Ports, Tracy Powell, Christine Sloat, Kellyn Wright.
