ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior Darren Christie twice went unassisted helping the University of Delaware men’s soccer team capture a 2-0 win over Navy on day two of Navy’s Anders Soccer Classic at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility on Sunday afternoon.

Following a scoreless first half, Christie (at right) netted two goals merely 35 seconds apart to secure the Blue Hens’ (1-2-0) first victory of the 2009 season.

Christie, a 2008 third team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, fired a shot from the left slot into the right corner of the goal to put the Hens on the board at 63:26.

Merely 35 seconds later, Christie again stunned the defense and found the back of the net finalizing all scoring at 2-0.

"A fantastic result for our team today,” praised fourth-year head coach Ian Hennessy. “The effort and organization was excellent, and Darren's goals were exquisite finishes. I really have to commend these players for their commitment to fight for this result.”

The Midshipmen (1-1-0) marginally outshot Delaware, 12-8, and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior co-captain Conrad Rusnak registered six saves in goal to post his third career shutout, while keeper Tyler Bristol tallied two saves for Navy.

The Blue Hens will return to action on Friday, Sept. 11 at Monmouth when they take on the Hawks in a 3 p.m. match.
