WILMINGTON, Del. -- The University of Delaware men’s soccer team took part in the third annual 5k run to raise funds and awareness for Prevent Child Abuse Delaware (PCAD) June 17 at Rockford Park.

Despite drizzly conditions, the race had over 100 runners of all ages and ability don their sneakers at Rockford Park in Wilmington.

“We are always delighted to help any cause that has a benefit for children” said fourth-year University of Delaware men’s soccer head coach Ian Hennessy. “We became interested in this particular cause through conversation with one of our soccer alums, Andrew Gonser, who serves on the PCAD board. The team and I do a good amount of community service, much of it geared toward children, so Andrew’s idea is a natural fit for us and we are delighted to be able to help.”

The Blue Hens will open the 2009 season Sept. 1 at Marist with the home opener set for Sept. 15 vs. Lehigh.
