NEWARK, Del. -
The University of Delaware men’s soccer team fell in a tough 1-0 battle with Bradley University on Sunday afternoon. Senior Jon Scheer (at right) took four shots in the contest, while taking a majority of Delaware’s corner kicks.
The lone goal of the game came in the 39th minute as Bradley’s Ross Williams hit Toni Ramadani with a pass, which Ramadani put into the top left corner of the goal.
But Delaware (1-1) battled hard late in the game, peppering the Braves (2-0-1) netminder with three shots in three minutes, with Delaware senior Courtney Hewitt taking two, one of which just missed the goal in the 73rd minute.
"We had a terrific second half and I felt for the lads that we could not get the equalizer,” said Delaware head coach Ian Hennessy.
Hewitt led all shooters in the game with five, while fellow senior Ben Rodkey took three, with one on goal.
Between the pipes for the Hens, Conrad Rusnak made one save while his defense worked hard and allowed just eight shots in the game, forcing Braves shooters to miss on six occasions.
“To be fair we did not enjoy a good first half as a group and that is when the damage was done and Bradley deserve credit for defending their lead well. No excuses in the end and we look to move ahead to a very tough Big East opponent next Friday"
Delaware is on the road for its next game when it travels to Rutgers University on Friday Sept. 10 in New Brunswick, N.J. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. at Yurcak Field. - DDD - |
