At Delaware: Will serve as co-captain along with Justin Arpan and Anthony Talarico • expected to start in the Blue Hen backfield for the third straight year.
2004: Started all 18 games in the backfield for the Blue Hens • scored his only goal of the year in the Blue Hens’ 1-0 double overtime victory against Navy on September 21 • recorded five shots on goal • one of three players to see action in all 18 games • named to third team CoSIDA Academic All-America Men’s Soccer Team and was a first team all-district selection • named to CAA Academic Honor Roll.
2003: Earned UD Alumni Association Team MVP award • played in 20 matches and started 19 • was one of six players to see action in all 20 games during the season • second on the team with three goals and tied for second with seven points • scored both Delaware goals in the 5-2 loss versus Lehigh on September 17th • scored the game-tying goal in the 1-1 tie versus James Madison on October 12 • also recorded an assist on September 10 in the 2-0 win over Rider • named CAA Rookie of the Week on October 12.
High School: Four-time all-conference selection at St. Elizabeth • earned four letters in soccer • named to all-state teams three times, including a first-team selection his senior year • also lettered two years in basketball.
Personal: Matthew Michael Haney • born January 5, 1985 • son of Charles and Janice Haney • both parents attended Delaware • father played basketball at Delaware from 1970-71 • one of three siblings • biological sciences major at Delaware with a minor in chemistry.
