Delaware vs. Towson Oct. 10, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. L 2-1 (OT)
The University of Delaware men's soccer team
(6-5-1, 2-3) lost its third straight game, when the
Blue Hens lost 2-1 in overtime against Towson
University (7-5,3-1) on Saturday at the Delaware
Mini-Stadium. Delaware and Towson played a
scoreless first half. The Blue Hens struck first
when Dennis O'Connell (Trumbull,
Conn./Fairfield Prep) took a pass from Lakieben
Brown (Endwell, N.Y,.Union Endicott) and
converted a break away goal with 43:01 left in the
second half to put Delaware up 1-0. The Tigers came
right back, and scored 13 seconds after Delaware,
when Todd Lauber sent a pass Adam Lowe which Lowe
put by Delaware goalkeeper Joaquin Hurtado
(Santa Cruz, Bolivia/St. Benedicts) to tie the
score at 1-1. The two teams remained tied at 1-1
through regulation and the first overtimeperiod
until Richie Moller headed in a corner kick which
came off the foot of Matt DeOrsey with 1:20 left in
the first overtime period to give Towson the 2-1
sudden death overtime victory. Delaware outshot
Towson 14-13, 6-5 in the second half, as Delaware
lost its second straight America East game.
