RICHMOND, VA -- The University of Delaware mens' and women's swimming and diving teams opened up their 2000-2001 seasons Friday night with a split at the University of Richmond.

The four-time defending America East champion Delaware men (1-0) ran their winning streak over two seasons to six with a 181-96 victory over Virginia Military Institute while the host Spiders downed the Blue Hen women (0-1) 175-125. The UD women had won their final five meets during the 1999-2000 season.
