BOCA RATON, FL -- The University
of Delaware men's and women's swimming teams each lost two
decisions in a tri-meet vs. the University of Cincinnati and
host Florida Atlantic University Wednesday
afternoon.
In the men's meet, the Blue Hens (2-6)
dropped decisions of 166-39 to Florida Atlantic and 163-42
to Cincinnati. Cincinnati downed FAU 130-5-74.5. In the
women's meet, Delaware (3-5) fell to Florida Atlantic 148-57
and to Cincinnati 135-67. Florida Atlantic downed Cincinnati
135-67.
Delaware did not win any individual
titles but received several solid performances.
On the women's side, freshman Meghan
Petry (Villa Walsh/New Providence, NJ) continued to
excel, breaking her own record in the 1,000 freestyle with a
time of 10:19.79 to place second overall, placing third in
the 500 freestyle (5:05.38) and fourth in the 200 butterfly
(2:10.29).
Also for the Hens, Jill Fitzgerald
(Wood/Warminster, PA) was fourth in the 50 freestyle
(25.94), Jennifer Haus (St. Mark's HS) was fifth in
the 50 freestyle (26.16) and sixth in the 100 freestyle
(56.61), Kathryn Fryer (Severna Park, MD HS) was
fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:17.94) and sixth in the 200
freestyle (2:03.91), and Sandy Stephens (St. Mark's
HS) was third in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.73) and sixth in
the 200 individual medley (2:17.81). The Hens also placed
third in both the 400 medley relay (4:13.24) and 400
freestyle relay (3:57.93). Megan Rodgers placed
second in both the one-meter and three-meter diving
events.
For the Delaware men, Michael
Gallaher (Peabody/West Peabody, MA) placed fourth in the
1,000 freestyle (10:00.02), fifth in the 500 freestyle
(4:57.60), seventh in the 100 freestyle (50.32), and swam
the first leg of the fourth place 400 freestyle relay
(3:25.76), Bryan Kahner (Jericho, NY HS) was sixth in
the 200 freestyle (1:50.60) and seventh in the 500 freestyle
(5:05.80), Rick Dressel (McKean HS) was sixth in the
50 freestyle (23.50) and seventh in both the 200 butterfly
(2:08.22) and 200 backstroke (2:09.33), and Anthony
Pierce placed sixth in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.25).
Lavar Larks placed second in both the one-meter and
three-meter diving events.
Cincinnati won the men's meet as Steve
McLeod won both the 500 freestyle and 1,000 freestyle, Ryan
McNally captured both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle,
and Kevin Dupuis won the 200 individual medley and 200
breaststroke. Florida Atlantic won the women's meet as
Kristina Kennedy won the 200 individual medley and 200
breaststroke. For Cincinnati, Maria Oberg won the 100
freestyle, 200 freestyle, and 500 freestyle
events.
Delaware will return to action Jan. 20
when both teams travel to America East foe Towson
University.
