Gallaher Wins Three Events But Hens Fall to Hoyas

WASHINGTON, DC -- Freshman Meghan Petry and senior Mike Gallaher each won three events as the University of Delaware men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out their dual meet seasons with a split vs. host Georgetown Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Hen women improved to 5-6 with a 147-96 victory over the Hoyas while the Georgetown men upended Delaware (3-8) by a score of 135-108. Delaware will compete at the America East championships this weekend at the University of Maine.

The Delaware women won nine events led by Petry (Villa Walsh/New Providence, NJ), who captured the 500 freestyle (5:10.61), 1,000 freestyle (10:22.94), and 200 butterfly (2:09.56) events. Also winning races for the Blue Hens were Jennifer Haus (St. Mark's/Newark, DE) in the 200 freestyle (1:58.95), Sandy Stephens (St. Mark's/Wilmington, DE) in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.24), Erin Colbert (Newark, DE HS) in the 200 backstroke (2:15.52), and Rebecca Caldwell (McCaskey/Lancaster, PA) in the 200 breaststroke (2:32.22).

Stephens and Haus joined Meagan Marshall (Thomas Jefferson/Frederick, MD) and Kathryn Fryer (Severna Park, MD HS) in winning the 400 medley relay (4:07.29) while Stephens swam the first leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay team (3:43.20). For Georgetown, Kathryn Harrison won both diving events.

Gallaher (West Peabody/Peabody, MA) captured three of the five first place finishes for the UD men as he won the 200 freestyle (1:47.01), 500 freestyle (4:51.98), and 1,000 freestyle (10:06.25) events. Also taking home first place finishes for the Blue Hens were Tim Wasiewski (Conestoga Valley/Lancaster, PA) in the 200 individual medley (2:03.25) and Neumann Marlett (Belvidere, NJ HS) in the 200 backstroke (2:03.85).

For Georgetown, Chris Lengle won three events while Mike Kizer and Rich Dennis each won two.
