Each Win Two Events in UD Loss

HARRISONBURG, VA -- The
University of Delaware men's and women's swimming and diving
teams were swept by host James Madison University in a
Colonial Athletic Association dual meet Saturday at Savage
Natatorium.
The Blue Hen women (6-4) lost a tight
158-139 verdict to James Madison (3-9) while the Delaware
men (1-8) fell to the Dukes (6-4) by a score of 153-113.
Both Delaware teams will close out the dual meet season Feb.
6 when they host Howard at Rawstrom Pool at 4
p.m.
The Delaware women captured nine first
place finishes as Sandy Stephens (St. Mark's/Wilmington, DE)
captured four events and Julie Van Deusen (Hill School/Bear,
DE) remained undefeated on the season in the one and
three-meter diving events. On the men's side, the Blue Hens
captured five first place finishes as Alex Skacel
(Holy Cross/Moorestown, NJ) and Adam Goldstein
(Vernon Twp./Highland Lakes, NJ) each won two individual
races.
Topping the men's competition were Skacel
and Goldstein who each won two events. Skacel captured the
200 backstroke (1:59.63) and 100 butterfly (54.61) and was
third in both the 200 medley relay (1:41.74) and 100
backstroke (55.82), and Goldstein was a winner in the 500
freestyle (4:58.24) and 400 individual medley (4:30.05) and
was third in the 200 freestyle relay.
Delaware also captured the 200 freestyle
relay as the team of Jacob Yohe (Dallastown/Jacobus,
PA), Rick Dressel (McKean/Wilmington, DE), Robert
Frey (East/West Chester, PA), and Kevin Kotowski
(Salesianum/Wilmington, DE) took first place in a time of
1:30.85.
Also for the Hens, Kevin Weisser
(Franklin Regional/Murrysville, PA) was second in the 200
freestyle relay (1:32.42), 1,650 freestyle (17:09.36), and
100 butterfly (57.61), Tim Wasiewski (Conestoga
Valley/Lancaster, PA) was second in the 100 freestyle
(50.38) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.36) and 200
medley relay, and Frey was third in the 200 breaststroke
(2:19.43).
Stephens captured the 100 breaststroke
(1:06.75), the 200 breaststroke (2:26.10), and the 100
butterfly (58.81), 2.64), and teamed with Kristen Avioli
(Bishop Shanahan/West Chester, PA), sister Sara Stephens
(St. Mark's/Wilmington, DE), and Jill Fitzgerald (Archbishop
Wood/Warminster, PA) to win the 200 medley relay in a time
of 1:50.31. Fitzgerald also captured the 100 freestyle
(54.46) while Meghan Petry (Villa Walsh/New Providence, NJ)
won the 1,650 freestyle (no time available), and Sarah
Peffer (Newark/Newark, DE) won the 500 freestyle (5:11.35).
Van Deusen, who is yet to lose this
season in nine competitions on the boards, won the one-meter
dive with 273.225 points and the three-meter event with
309.375 points.
Also for the UD women, Fitzgerald was
second in the 50 freestyle (25.29) and third in the 200
freestyle (1:59.35), Peffer was second in the 200 freestyle
(1:58.73) and 200 butterfly (2:10.25), Avioli was third in
the 100 backstroke (1:01.50), Petry was third in the 400
individual medley (4:44.93), and Sara Stephens was second in
the 400 individual medley (4:42.64) and third in the 200
butterfly (2:12.46).
