Hen Swimmers in 10th Place After First Day
of CAA Championships

VA -- Both the University of Delaware
men's and women's swimming and diving
teams are in 10th place after the first
day of competition at the Colonial
Athletic Association Championships
Wednesday night at George Mason
University's Jim McKay
Natatorium.
Three-time
defending men's champion UNC Wilmington is
in first place with 70 points followed by
Drexel and Old Dominion (64) in second,
George Mason (62), Towson (58), William
& Mary (56), Davidson (50), James
Madison 948), College of Charleston (36),
and Delaware (28).
On the
women's side, three-time defending
champion George Mason has taken the first
day lead with 129 points followed by
Towson (90), Davidson (75), William &
Mary (68), James Madison (67), UNC
Wilmington (64), Drexel (53), Old Dominion
(48), College of Charleston (46), and
Delaware (37).
The
championships will continue Thursday,
Friday, and Saturday. The Delaware women
placed fifth a year ago while the Blue Hen
men were 10th.
Delaware
received its top finish during the day in
the women's 800 freestyle relay as the
Blue Hen team of Sara Stephens, Ellen
Heinz, Sara Reed, and Meredith Law placed
fifth with a time of 7:41.63. Towson won
the race in 7:32.67. Delaware was
disqualified in the 200 medley relay with
Towson also winning that title in a time
of 1:44.76.
In the
only individual action of the day,
Delaware's Sarah Bergan placed ninth in
the three-meter diving event with 301.65
points. Also for the Hens, Jamie Hartnett
was 17th with 215.45 points and Emily
Pretz was 18th with a score of 214.50.
George Mason's Mary Campioli won the event
with a score of 433.90 points.
The
Delaware men placed 10th in both the 200
medley relay and 800 freestyle relay. The
Delaware 200 medley relay team of Brendan
Spencer, David Hardie, Levan Beridze, and
Andrew Zinn swam to a time of 1:39.64
while the 800 freestyle relay team of Adam
Blomberg, Joe Virion, Troy Sattgast, and
Beridze swam to a time of 7:04.70. UNC
Wilmington won the 200 medley relay in
1:32.53 while Drexel captured the 800
freestyle relay with a clocking of
6:46.74.
