Delaware Edged By Drexel, 119-118, In Men's Swimming

Athlete photoNEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware women’s swimming team defeated Drexel,139-93, while the men lost by a razor thin 119-118 margin to the Dragons in a Colonial Athletic Association meet at Harry Rawstrom Pool on Saturday afternoon.

The women’s 400 Yard Medley Relay team of Kristina Lamoreaux, Lauren Southard, Sarah Begley and Stephanie House captured the event in a time of 4:05.50. In addition, Begley (50 Yard Freestyle, 25.35) and House (200 Yard Freestyle, 1:58.30) each posted individual event wins. Meredith Law won the 1000 Yard Freestyle in a time of 10:43.26, Kelly Pastore won the 200 Yard Individual Medley in 2:15.38, Kendall Warren won the 100 Yard Freestyle in 55.41, Emily Smathers won the 200 Yard Backstroke in 2:10.72 and Katie Zoretic won the 500 Yard Freestyle in 5:17.44. In all, seven different swimmers won an individual event to lead the Hens to the win.

On the men’s side, Joe Virion and Andrew Zinn (right) were both double winners for Delaware. Virion won the 1000 and 500 Yard Freestyle events in 10:11.30 and 4:56.83, respectively. Zinn took first in the 50 and 100 Yard Freestyle events in 21.46 and 47.55, respectively. Troy Sattgast won the 200 Yard Butterfly in 2:02.03, and the Delaware A 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team of James Lavendar, Adam Blomberg, Garret Arant and Zinn won its race in 3:16.15. Arant, Blomberg and Levan Beridze all captured second place in two events each for Delaware.

Both Delaware teams will return to action Saturday at La Salle with Rider for a 1 p.m. meet with the Explorers and the Broncs.
