ORLANDO, FL -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving team closed out their annual winter training trip to Florida by sweeping Grand Valley (MI) State in a relay dual meet on New Years Day at the YMCA of Orlando.

The Delaware women swept first and second place in all eight relay events to post a 750 94 win while the Delaware men won all eight events and placed second in six of them for a 642-230 victory. Both meets were conducted using a modified relay scoring system.

The Delaware women improved to 8-1 with their fifth straight dual meet victory while the Blue Hen men snapped a five-meet dual losing streak to improve to 2-6. Both Blue Hen teams will return to action this Saturday, Jan. 7 when they host Colonial Athletic Association foe Towson University at Rawstrom Pool.

The Blue Hen women won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:47.20), 400 medley relay (4:27.05), 500 freestyle relay (5:02.51), 300 breaststroke relay (3:35.26), 300 backstroke relay (3:18.61), 300 butterfly relay (3:10.85), 200 medley relay (1:55.36), and 800 freestyle relay (8:19.03).

The Blue Hen men won the 300 butterfly relay (2:50.86), 200 medley relay (1:43.90), 800 freestyle relay (7:36.03), 200 freestyle relay (1:31.36), 400 medley relay (4:03.46), 500 freestyle relay (4:37.56), 300 breaststroke relay (3:20.62), and 300 backstroke relay (2:56.24).

Four Delaware swimmers were part of four first place relay teams as Sarah Begley (Conestoga/Berwyn, PA) won the 200 medley relay, 300 butterfly relay, 500 freestyle relay, and 200 freestyle relay for the women, James Lavendar (Dunwoody/Dunwoody, GA) captured the 200 medley relay, 300 butterfly relay, 200 freestyle relay, and 500 freestyle relay, Adam Blomberg (Kamiakin/Kennewick, WA - at right) was part of the winning\ 800 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle relay, 200 freestyle relay, and 400 medley relay, and Levan Beridze (Tbilisi, Georgia) was a winner in the 800 freestyle relay, 300 breaststroke relay, 500 freestyle relay, and 200 freestyle relay on the men’s side.

Winning three events for the UD women were Emily Watts, Kendall Warren, Maryann Walker, and Ellen Heinz. Capturing three events for the UD men were Andrew Zinn and Brendan Spencer.
