NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware swimmer Adam Blomberg (at right), who set three school records for the Blue Hens during the 2006-07 campaign, has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 2 University Division men’s at-large team.

Blomberg, a junior from Kennewick, WA (Kamiakin High School), was one of 10 student-athletes selected to the team based his academic and athletic excellence during the season. District 2 University Division includes all NCAA Division I schools in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. The at-large team includes athletes in sports other than football, soccer, basketball, and baseball.

To be eligible, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve for his team and have a cumulative grade point index of 3.2 or higher. All first team members are now eligible for the Academic All-American ballot.

A three-year letterwinner and Dean’s List student, Blomberg set three school records this past season, establishing new UD standards in the 200 freestyle relay (1:24.50), 400 freestyle relay (3:08.24), and 800 freestyle relay (6:53.59). Earlier this spring he was honored as the Colonial Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men’s swimming and diving.

Blomberg has registered 23 career top 10 finishes at the CAA Championships in his three seasons, including placing sixth in both the 200 freestyle relay and 800 freestyle relay at the 2007 championships. Individually, he placed 14th in the 100 butterfly and 16th in the 200 butterfly at this year’s CAA meet.

A physics major with a minor in business and management information systems, Blomberg has been named to the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll three times. He carries a 3.79 grade point index. Earlier this month he also earned the swimming and diving team’s Thomas Baranello Award for outstanding achievement in the classroom and in the pool and was also named the team’s Sportsmanship Award winner.

Joining Blomberg on the first team were Chris Renninger of Navy, Adam Crystal of Drexel, Dan Kaiserian of Penn State, Alex Clemsen of Edinboro, Travis Fox of St. Francis (PA), Landis Stankievech of Princeton, Paul Rabil of Johns Hopkins, Joel Gasper of Robert Morris, and Mikhail Bekker of Pennsylvania.
