NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware women’s swimming and diving team picked up two victories while the Blue Hen men won once as Delaware hosted Northeastern, Old Dominion, and William & Mary in a Colonial Athletic Association quad meet held Friday and Saturday at Rawstrom Natatorium.
The UD women, who improved to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference, defeated Northeastern, 212-141, and Old Dominion, 251-102, but fell to William & Mary, 228-124. The Delaware men, who are now 3-1 overall and 2-1 in league action, defeated the Monarchs, 206-141, but dropped a 201-150 decision to the Tribe. Northeastern does not have a men’s swimming team.
Michelle Stephens was the lone winner for the Delaware women’s team on Saturday, as she took the 200 individual medley in 2:11.57. Maryann Walker finished second in the 200 backstroke in 2:07.84, while Kellie Pastore was second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:25.88 and Meredith Law placed second in the 500 freestyle in 5:10.63.
The UD 200 medley relay team of Emily Smathers, Pastore, Stephanie House, and Rachel Greene finished second in its race in 1:51.69, while the 400 freestyle relay team of Sarah Begley, Greene, Kendall Warren, and Walker came in second in its event in 3:35.26. Smathers finished third in the 200 backstroke in 2:11.32, while Begley was third in the 100 butterfly in 59.26. The Blue Hens’ second 400 freestyle relay team of House, Cecily Connell, Cathy Gallagher, and Law finished third in its race in 3:40.80.
Matt Abbruzzese won the one meter diving with a 284.90 score to pace the Delaware men’s team Saturday, while Andrew Zinn took the 100 freestyle in 47.57 and Brendan Spencer (above) captured the 200 individual medley in 2:01.07.
Ben Blotner finished second in the one meter diving with a 235.70 score, while the 200 medley relay team of John Ohlhaver, Matt Rathbun, Troy Sattgast, and Zinn was second in its race in 1:39.44. Rathbun placed second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:15.64, while the UD 400 freestyle relay team of Ohlhaver, Spencer, Adam Blomberg, and Zinn came in second in its event in 3:13.16. Thomas Gallagher finished third in the one meter diving for the Blue Hens with a 229.00 score.
Both Delaware teams return to action next Saturday when they travel to Philadelphia to take on Drexel and Vermont at 2 p.m.
