 NEWARK, DE – The University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming teams added 16 student-athletes to its 2008-09 recruiting class, announced head coach John Hayman.
Audrey Caldwell, Victoria Drach, Stephanie Dodd, Hannah Facchine, Anne Frigo, Megan Huber, Elise Kanegawa, Kim Mangus, Jena Marrinucci, and Kristen McBrien will all join the women’s team for the upcoming season.
On the men’s side, Nick Bonifield, Josh Hyman, Seamus Kennedy, Jim Losi, Eddie Qian, and Nick Woomer will compete for the Blue Hens beginning this fall.
Nick Bonifield (Millville, N.J. / Millville) earned All-Conference honors in the 100-freestyle and 100-butterfly, while he also was honored for his work with the 200-medley relay team. A competitor for the Vineland YMCA Seals, he also garnered All-South Jersey honors for his efforts in the 100-free.
Josh Hyman (Wilmington, Del. / Salesianum) was a four-time first-team All-State selection and earned the Delaware Swimmer of the Year Award in 2008. As a senior, he helped Salesianum capture its 25th state championship while winning individual titles in the 100-breaststroke and 200-IM.
Seamus Kennedy (Delran, N.J. / Delran) specialized in the backstroke and butterfly during his varsity career at Delran. A competitor in the state meet, he also swam for the Tenby Chase Sharks and was a perennial qualifier for the annual Tri-County meet where he earned a fourth-place finish in the 100-backstroke in 2008.
Jim Losi (Buffalo, N.Y. / Canisius High School) was named the Most Valuable Swimmer after winning four titles at the Monsignor Martin League Championship. A two-time team MVP, he set seven school records and posted an All-American Consideration time in the 200-freestyle relay.
Edward Qian (Germantown, Md. / Montgomery Blair High School) was a key member of the school’s Washington Metropolitan Championship teams. During the state meet, he earned two top-20 finishes and had a sixth-place showing at the Eastern Zone Championships in the 100-breaststroke.
Nick Woomer (Sinking Spring, Pa. / Wilson High School) led his high school to two PIAA AAA State Championships and four league titles. For his efforts in the freestyle and backstroke, he was a two-time All-American and four-time All-County selection while winning the district championship in the 50-freestyle and 100-backstroke.
Aubrey Caldwell (Pottstown, Pa. / Pottsgrove) earned All-State honors in both the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, while she was a perennial member of the All-District and All-Conference squads. She also was a 10-time competitor in the YMCA National Championships and also served as her team’s captain as a senior.
Stephanie Dodd (Calle de la Siena, Calif. / Torrey Pines) led Torrey Pines to three-straight Palamar League and CIF Division I championships as a competitor in the freestyle and IM. On an individual side, she captured the league crown in the 200-freesytle event during her senior season.
Tori Drach (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills High School) was three-time first-team All-Area selection in the breaststroke and a two-time Scholastic All-American. She placed in the top-10 in the state meet during the breaststroke as a sophomore and junior, while she won the conference crown in each of those seasons as well.
Hannah Facchine (Raleigh, N.C. / William Enloe High School) was a four-year letterwinner as a standout in the breaststroke during her high school career. In 2006, she won the state championship in the 100-breaststroke and earned All-American honors for her efforts.
Anne Frigo (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston) was a four-time All-Conference and All-State selection as an exceptional sprint freestylist. A four-time All-Sectional pick as well, she was a member of her school’s 200-medley relay team that captured a state championship, while she also garnered a sixth-place finish in the 50-freestyle.
Megan Huber (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton High School) competed in the WPIAL Championships during each of her four varsity seasons and captured a first-place finish in the 200-medley relay in 2008. A four-year letterwinner and captain as a senior, she also earned a PIAA state medal after leading her 200-medley relay team to a second-place showing last season.
Elise Kanegawa (Fleetwood, Pa. / Brandywine Heights) was a four-time All-State selection at Brandywine Heights while competing in both the butterfly and freestyle. A district champion in the butterfly and competitor in the state meet, she was also a member of the YMCA National Team during her years with the Boyertown Navy Seals.
Kimberley Mangus (Columbia, Md. / Howard High School) competed in the butterfly and freestyle and was both a sectional participant and state qualifier for her efforts. Successful both in and out of the pool, she also was a two-time Scholastic All-American in 2006 and 2007.
Jena Marrinucci (Reading, Pa. / Muhlenberg High School) was an All-Conference and All-American pick in sprints throughout her four-year varsity career. A perennial finalist in the state and district meets, she holds the school record in the 100-backstroke and led the 200- and 400-freestyle relay teams to state titles during the 2006-07 campaign.
Kristen McBrien (Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright High School) was a two-time member of the Maryland All-Star Team and earned four top-10 finishes during the 2008 state meet. A member of the North Baltimore Aquatic Club, she also was a three-time Super Sectional Qualifier.
The sixteen standouts will join the Blue Hens when the team opens up its season against George Mason on October 11 at the newly-renovated Rawstrom Natatorium.
