RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware swimmer Andrew Zinn captured the Colonial Athletic Association Swimmer of the Week award after leading his team to a 163-137 victory over Drexel at the Rawstrom Natatorium last Saturday.
Zinn (Wilmington, DE / McKean) won four events during the meet, highlighted by his victory in the 50-yard freestyle. During the event, he finished in 20.72, the third fastest time in school history. He also holds the top-two spots after breaking his own school record with a 20.62 during the first meet of the season against George Mason.
Against Drexel, Zinn also won the 100-yard freestyle in 46.71. Then, he swam the anchor leg on the 200-yard medley relay team that won its event in 1:36.46 before also serving as a member of the victorious 400-yard freestyle relay squad.
On the season, he has now won 13 events, including eight individual competitions.
In his career, Zinn has won four CAA Swimmer of the Week honors, including two last season. Named the 2006 team Most Valuable Player by the UD Alumni Association, he is a ten-time top-10 finisher at the CAA championships, including a fourth-place finish last year in the 100-yard freestyle.
Zinn is the third member of the Delaware swimming and diving team to earn CAA weekly honors this season. On October 27, Grady Carter and Maryann Walker were also named Swimmers of the Week.
In addition to Zinn, the CAA honored UNC Wilmington’s Kobi Salinas as the men’s Diver of the Week, while Drexel’s Katie McCann and Kate Hynes were selected for the women's awards.
Both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to the pool for a tri-meet in Philadelphia with LaSalle and Rider on Saturday at 1 p.m.
