RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware senior Andrew Zinn captured the Colonial Athletic Association Swimmer of the Week award for the second time this season after leading the Blue Hens to a 186-101 victory over Towson at the Rawstrom Natatorium last Saturday.

Zinn (Wilmington, DE / McKean) won three events during the meet, highlighted by his record-setting victory in the 50-yard freestyle. During the event, he finished in 20.44, which broke the school and pool record.

It was the second time this year that he broke his own school record in the 50 free after also doing it during the first meet of the season against George Mason. He now holds the program’s top-four times in the event.

His time also set a new pool record breaking the mark of 20.70 set by Matt Carrico of Northeastern during the 1992-93 season. He is now the only Blue Hen swimmer, past or present, to hold a pool record at the Rawstrom Natatorium.

Against Towson, Zinn also won the 100-yard freestyle in 46.62. Then, he swam the anchor leg on the 200-yard medley relay team that won its event in 1:35.64. Both of those times were also season bests.

On the year, he has now won 18 events, including 11 individual competitions.

In his career, Zinn has won five CAA Swimmer of the Week awards, including two during each of the last two seasons. Named the 2006 team Most Valuable Player by the UD Alumni Association, he is a ten-time top-10 finisher at the CAA championships, including a fourth-place finish last year in the 100-yard freestyle.

It is the fourth weekly award for the Delaware swimming and diving teams this year. Along with Zinn’s first award on November 11, Grady Carter and Maryann Walker were also honored as the CAA Swimmers of the Week on October 27.

In addition to Zinn, the CAA also honored Towson's Bradley Bolin as the men's Diver of the Week and Hillary Rieveley as the women's Swimmer of the Week, while Kate Hynes of Drexel was selected as the women's top diver.

The Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to the pool for a tri-meet in Harrisonburg with the Virginia Military Institute and James Madison beginning at 1 p.m.
