RICHMOND, Va. – For the second time in three weeks, University of Delaware senior diver Matt Abbruzzese has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Diver of the Week after earning the honor for his efforts during the Blue Hens’ victory over William & Mary last weekend.

During Delaware’s last conference meet of the season, Abbruzzese, who shares this week’s award with George Mason’s Bryan Bahr, swept the diving events after posting the top score in both the 1- and 3-meter boards. He posted a season-high score in each event and qualified for the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships for his work.

In the 1-meter dive, Abbruzzese took first place with a 304.05 score. His mark not only bested his previous season-high of 273.15 set in the tri-meet against LaSalle and Rider, but it also qualified him for the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships. That competition, hosted by the University at Buffalo in March, serves as a national qualifier for the NCAA meet.

Abbruzzese later returned to the pool and posted a season-best mark of 289.58 to capture the 3-meter dive. His performances led a clean sweep by the Blue Hens as fellow teammates Thomas Gallagher and Matt Ryan rounded out the top-three in both events.

On the season, Abbruzzese has won five events and placed second on three other occasions. His performance has helped guide the Blue Hens to a 10-2 record, including a 6-1 mark in the CAA heading into the team’s last meet of the regular season against Widener on Wednesday.

Overall, the award is the fifth weekly honor of Abbruzzese’s career. On January 13, he garnered his first as a senior, while he also took home one as a freshman and two as a sophomore.

Along with Abbruzzese, the conference office honored Old Dominion’s Arni Mar Arnason as the swimmer of the week. William and Mary’s Katie Radloff and George Mason’s Lisa Faulkner earned the top awards on the women’s side.
