RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware swimming standout Hans Gillan captured his second Colonial Athletic Association Swimmer of the Week award after another record-breaking performance in the team’s tri-meet over the weekend.
Gillan, a junior transfer from Georgia, won two events while helping lead the Blue Hens to a 1-1 record in the team’s meet against LaSalle and Rider. During the competition, he swept both butterfly events and broke his own school record in the 100-yard discipline.
After setting the program record during the George Mason pod meet two weeks ago, Gillan shaved .09 seconds off his own mark with a time of 50.27.
Earlier in the meet, he also paced the 200-yard butterfly field with a time of 1:57.98. He rounded out his day with two second-place showings in the 100-freestyle and the 200-medley relay.
On the season, Gillan has won nine events, including three record-setting performances. Along with his two individual marks in the 100-butterfly, he also teamed up to set a Rawstrom Natatorium record in the 200-yard medley relay during the season opener.
The honor is the third weekly award for the men’s swim team. Along with Gillan’s two honors, Grady Carter also was named the Swimmer of the Week on October 14. The team has now captured the award following each of its three competitions this season.
The league office also honored Bradley Bolin as the men’s Diver of the Week, while Brooke Golden captured her second Swimmer of the Week award on the women’s side.
Following a short lay-off, the Blue Hens will return to the pool on December 5-6 to take part in the Loyola College Invitational along with Marist and Villanova.
