RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware swimming standout Grady Carter has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Male Swimmer of the Week for his performance in the Blue Hens’ CAA Pod Meet last weekend.

While leading Delaware to a 2-1 record during the event, highlighted by wins over Towson and George Mason, Carter helped lead the team with four victories. Along with pacing the field in a pair of individual events, he also anchored two relay teams that went on to capture titles.

Carter’s performance was highlighted by a record-setting effort in the 200-medley relay. During the event, he anchored the foursome that eventually cruised to a time of 1:33.97. That time set a new pool record, shaving over a full second off the previous mark set last season.

The Newark native also cruised to victories in both sprint freestyles during the meet. In the 50-yard event, he touched the wall in 20.98, while he also won the 100 with a time of 45.96.

Fittingly, Carter capped the meet by leading the 400-freestyle relay team to a victory in the final event of the two-day competition. While serving as the anchor leg, he guided the squad to a time of 3:07.12.

Overall, this is Carter’s fourth weekly honor of his career. He was named the CAA’s Male Swimmer of the Week once as a freshman before earning the honor twice as a sophomore.

Along with Carter, the league honored George Mason’s Derrick Butts as the Male Diver of the Week. Towson’s Meredith Budner garnered the women’s top swimming honor, while George Mason’s Kristen Meier was awarded the Female Diver of the Week award.

Delaware will return to action on Saturday when the team travels to La Salle to battle the host Explorers as well as Rider at 1 p.m.
