Hens Record Six Top-Three Finishes at Delaware Diving Meet

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men’s and women’s diving teams captured six top-three finishes to solidify a strong showing at the Delaware Diving Meet against West Chester and Towson at the Rawstrom Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.

During the competition, Erika Bilenki led the way after finishing as the runner-up in the 1-meter board before placing third in the 3-meter dive. On the men’s side, Brian Coonce and Thomas Gallagher (at right) each earned a second-place finish for Delaware.

The Blue Hens earned a pair of top-three scores during the women’s 3-meter board as Emily Kasyon finished second after notching a 261.05, while Bilenki came in third with a mark of 254.85.

Bilenki also was the top Delaware finisher in the 1-meter board after coming in as the runner-up to Towson’s Caroline Baker with a score of 264.30.

Coonce opened the men’s half of the meet with a second-place showing in the 3-meter board after posting a 289.50 mark. Matt Ryan also finished third in the event with a score of 256.10.

Gallagher rounded out the top Delaware finishers after recording a season-best score of 295.20 in the 1-meter dive. His score was good enough for second-place during the event, while Coonce and Ryan finished fourth and fifth as well.

The diving competition served as a final tune-up before the squad opens up the Colonial Athletic Association championship meet at George Mason on February 24.

Top Delaware Finishers: 2nd Place – Brian Coonce (3-Meter Board, 289.50), Thomas Gallagher (1-Meter Board, 295.20); 3rd Place – Matt Ryan (3-Meter Board, 256.1); 4th Place – Brian Coonce (1-Meter Board, 256.40); 5th Place – Matt Ryan (1-Meter Board, 247.50); 6th Place – Thomas Gallagher (3-Meter Board, 213.40).
