COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Delaware men’s swimming team wrapped up its season with three titles at the 2010 Terrapin Cup Last Chance Meet at Maryland’s Eppley Natatorium last weekend.
During the event, which serves as a team’s final opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Championships, the Blue Hens captured two relay titles and an individual event. Overall, the squad picked up eight top-three finishes against an accomplished field of swimmers from schools ranging from the Big East’s West Virginia and Seton Hall to the ACC’s Maryland and Virginia.
Michael Wodoslawsky (at right) earned the team’s lone individual title after capturing the 400-individual medley. He completed the event in the program’s fastest time this season when he touched the wall in 4:05.56.
Delaware also garnered the top spot in both the 200-freestyle and 400-medley relays. The freestyle foursome, anchored by Grady Carter, Nick Woomer, Robert MacLeish, and Hans Gillan, cruised to a time of 1:23.18. Later, Carter and Gillan teamed with Craig Young and Ross Buckwalter to nail down the medley relay with a time of 3:22.68.
In other events, Woomer had a strong day after placing second in the 100-freestyle with a time of 46.60 before capturing third in the 50-free with a clocking of 20.86. Buckwalter also placed second in the 100-breaststroke after finishing in at 54.78, while Ryan Roberts came in third in the 100-backstroke with a time of 52.43.
The Hens’ finest 200-medley relay team rounded out the top performers after placing second in the event. The group, led by Gillan, Buckwalter, Wodoslawsky, and Carter, completed the course in 1:32.23.
