High School: Named all-state in the 500 freestyle • set school records in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle • named team Most Valuable Player as a junior and senior at Battlefield High School • served as team captain during final three seasons • finished eighth in the 500 freestyle and 14th in the 200 freestyle at the Virginia AAA state championships • all-region and all-area selection.

Personal: Joseph Michael Bruno • son of Mark and Irene Bruno • has two sisters, Anna and Maria • electrical engineering major at Delaware • both parents are graduates of the University of Pittsburgh • mother is a professor in applied information technology at George Mason University.
