Kennedy Keeps Winning; Cloutier Wins Debut for Hens


DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – The University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis teams split a pair of non-conference matches Wednesday in Florida.

The Delaware men won their fifth straight match with a 6-1 win over Bethel (Minn.) while the Delaware women had a three-match win streak snapped with a 7-2 loss to host Bethune-Cookman. The Blue Hen men improved to 8-7 on the season while the UD women fell to 9-2.

The Delaware men will take on Wisconsin-Whitewater Thursday evening and both UD squads will conclude their annual Florida spring trip with matches at Stetson University in DeLand, Fla. on Friday afternoon.

In the men’s match, Delaware won five of the six singles matches behind victories from Lee Kennedy at No. 2, David Mouber at No. 3, Jesse Leopold at No. 4, Pat Seitz at No. 5, and Matt Cloutier at No. 6. Kennedy, a freshman, improved to 11-4 in singles play this season. Cloutier was making his collegiate debut.

In doubles, the Hens got wins from the No. 1 team of Chris Johnson and Sean Kelly and from the No. 2 team of Mouber and Kennedy.

Bethune-Cookman won five of the six singles matches and two of three doubles matches on the way to the victory over Delaware.

The Hens picked up just two victories as sophomore Martine Street (8-1) posted a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 6 and Tracey Guerin teamed with Erin Kamen for a 9-8 win at No. 3 doubles. Kamen (10-1) lost her first singles match of the season as she fell to Bethune-Cookman’s Martina Tekalova at the No. 4 spot by a score of 6-0, 6-1.
