Kennedy, Mouber, Schwarcz, Seitz Earn Singles Wins


NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware men's and women's tennis teams continued their dominance over America East foe Drexel Saturday, defeating the Dragons in both matches at Delaware Field House.

The Delaware men posted a 4-2 victory over Drexel while the Blue Hen women won by a 5-1 score. The matches were moved inside to Delaware Field House due to rain and were limited to singles play only.

The Blue Hen men, playing their final regular season match before the America East championships next weekend in New York, improved to 11-11 on the season as they defeated Drexel for the 39th straight time since 1962.

The Delaware women improved to 12-4 overall and extended their winning streak over America East opponents to 29 since a loss to Drexel in 1992. The Hens have now defeated Drexel eight straight times since that 1992 setback.

Picking up singles wins for the Delaware men were Lee Kennedy at No. 2, David Mouber at No. 3, Myron Schwarcz at No. 5, and Pat Seitz at No. 6. Kennedy leads the team with a singles record of 14-89.

In the women's match, Delaware won five of the six singles matches as senior Karen Greenstein (New Rochelle, NY HS) won at No. 2, senior Erin Kamen (Central Bucks East, Pa./Lake Forest, IL) won at No. 3, freshman Jessica Wilkes (Nazareth/Bethlehem, PA) won at No. 4, sophomore Martine Street (Williams/Burlington, NC) won at No. 5, and Melanie Kozarski won at No. 6 in her collegiate singles debut.

Street won her 10th straight match to improve to 10-1 on the season while Kamen and Wilkes each improved to 12-3 on the season and Greenstein improved to 8-7. Kamen improved her career singles record to 70-12, just three wins shy of the UD record 73 set by current Delaware head coach Laura Travis in 1985-89.
