Hens' 6-Match Win
Streak Snapped by Hatters
DELAND, FLA. -- The University of
Delaware men's and women's tennis teams closed out their
annual Florida spring trip with losses to host Stetson
Friday afternoon.
The Delaware women (9-3) fell to Stetson
7-2 while the Blue Hen men (9-8) had a six-match win streak
snapped with a 7-0 loss to the Hatters.
In the women's match, Delaware won just
two matches as freshman Jessica Wilkes
(Nazareth/Bethlehem, PA) defeated Amanda Someak 6-1, 6-1 at
the No. 5 singles spot then teamed with Tracey Guerin
for a 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles over Someak and Julie
Dougherty.
Delaware is now 10-0 at the No. 3 doubles
position this season. Wilkes is now 10-2 on the season in
singles and a combined 6-0 in doubles.
In the men's match, the Blue Hens
suffered their first loss of the spring trip (3-1) as
Stetson won all six singles matches in straight sets and
also captured all three doubles matches.
Delaware's Lee Kennedy lost for
just the fifth time this season and had a six-match win
streak snapped as he saw his singles record drop to 12-5.
Delaware's No. 3 player David Mouber also had a
six-match win streak snapped with a 6-4, 7-5 setback to
Filipe Normann.
Both teams return North to take on Towson
this week.
