April 14, 2001 Blue Hens Down Dragons for 40th Straight Time
PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware continued its mastery of Drexel University on the tennis courts Saturday afternoon as the Blue Hen men's and women's tennis teams swept the host Dragons by identical 6-1 scores. The Delaware women won five of the six singles matches on the way to their 6-1 win while the Blue Hen men also won all but one singles match for the 6-1 win. The Delaware men (4-6) snapped a three-match losing streak and defeated the Dragons for 40th straight time, improving to 57-18-2 all-time. Drexel has not defeated the Blue Hens since 1962. The Delaware women (4-3), who won their second straight match, downed Drexel for the ninth straight time since 1992. In the men's match, Delaware got singles victories from Lee Kennedy at No. 2, Sean Kelly at No. 3, Sanjay Khindri at No. 4, Ari Zweig at No. 5, and John Fogelgren at No. 6. Kelly and Khindri combined for a win at No. 1 doubles while Zweig and Pat Seitz teamed for a win for the Hens at No. 3 doubles. Kennedy (North Mecklenburg/Cornelius, NC) and Fogelgren (Salesianum/Wilmington, DE) each improved to a team best record of 5-5 in singles play this season. In women's action, the Hens won five singles matches as Jessica Wilkes at No. 2, Martine Street at No. 3, Anisha Talati at No. 4, Danielle Wall at No. 5, and Jessica Quittman at No. 6 all were victorious. In doubles, the Hens got wins from Elly Giese and Wilkes at No. 1 and Talati and Quittman at No. 3. Wall (Villa Maria/Newtown Square, PA) improved to 6-0 and Quittman (Harrison/Harrison, NY) to 5-1 in singles action this season while the doubles team of Talati (Hillsborough/Bellemead, NJ) and Quittman improved to 6-1.
