March 24, 2001 Khindri Wins Last Match at Singles to Clinch UD Win
NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware men's tennis team won its first match of the season with a win over Lehigh and the Lehigh women downed Delaware in non-league matches Saturday at the University of Delaware. The Blue Hen men (1-2) defeated Lehigh 4-2 at the Delaware Field House Courts while the Blue Hen women (0-2) fell to Lehigh 4-3 at the Carpenter Sports Building Courts. The Delaware men downed the Mountain Hawks for the first time since 1996 after three straight losses as the Hens won four of the six singles matches. No doubles matches were played due to cold temperatures. Delaware clinched the win when freshman Sanjay Khindri (Emmaus/Macungie, PA) downed Lehigh's Craig Ditman 6-7 (3), 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 4 singles spot. Also picking up wins for the Hens were senior Dave Mouber (Moorestown Friends/Mt. Laurel, NJ) at the No. 1 spot, freshman Ari Zweig (Wilde Lake/Columbia, MD) at No. 5 singles, and freshman John Fogelgren (Salesianum/Wilmington, DE) at No. 6 singles. On the women's side, Lehigh downed Delaware 4-3, snapping the Hens' six-game win streak vs. the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh won each of the first four singles matches to clinch the win. Winning for the Blue Hens were freshmen Danielle Wall (Villa Maria Academy/Newtown Square, PA) at No. 5 singles and Jessica Quittman (Harrison, NY HS) at No. 6 singles, the No. 2 doubles team of Wall and Martine Street (Williams/Burlington, NC), and the No. 3 doubles team of Quittman and freshman Anisha Talati (Hillsborough/Bellemead, NJ). Both the Delaware men and women will travel to Florida Sunday for their annual spring trip. The Delaware men will open play March 26 at Webber College while the UD women will open March 27 vs. Portland State at Grenelefe Country Club. AGATE: Delaware Men def.
