Hens Sweep Doubles for First Win of Florida Trip

 

Lee Kennedy Won at No. 2 Singles and No. 1 Doubles for Delaware

HAINES CITY, FL -- The University of Delaware men's and women's tennis teams swept Portland State in non-league action Tuesday morning at Grenelefe Country Club.

The Delaware men, coming off a 9-0 loss to Webber College in their Florida Trip opener Monday, defeated Portland State 6-1 while the UD women, making their Florida Trip debut, downed the Vikings 7-0. The games marked Delaware's first ever meetings against Portland State in tennis. Both Delaware teams will take on St. Leo College Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.

The Blue Hen men (2-3) got singles victories from Lee Kennedy, Sean Kelly, Sanjay Khindri, Ari Zweig, and John Fogelgren and swept the three doubles matches as Kennedy and David Mouber teamed for a win at No. 1, Khindri and Kelly won at the No. 2 spot, and Zweig and Pat Seitz won by default at the No. 3 spot.

The Delaware women (1-2) won their first match of the season as they swept the six singles matches in straight sets and won all three doubles matches.

Picking up singles wins for the Blue Hens were Elly Giese at No. 1, Jessica Wilkes at No. 2, Martine Street at No. 3, Anisha Talati at No. 4, Danielle Wall at No. 5, and Jessica Quittman at No. 6. Giese improved to 34-15 in her career at singles, moving into 15th place on the all-time singles wins list at Delaware. Wall improved to a team-best 2-0 on the season in singles.

At doubles, the teams of Giese and Wilkes at No. 1, Wall and Street at No. 2, and Talati and Quittman at No. 3 were all victorious.
