Blue Hens Advance to Consolation Finals vs. Boston U.

 

BURLINGTON, VT -- The University of Delaware men's tennis team stayed alive in the America East men's tennis tournament Saturday evening with a 6-1 victory over New Hampshire in the consolation round at the University of Vermont's Patrick Complex.

No. 3 seed Delaware (5-7), which lost its opening match to Hartford Friday night, advances to the consolation finals today (Sunday) where the Hens will play No. 5 seed Boston University at 9 a.m. for third place. The Terriers advanced with a 4-1 win over Drexel.

Top seed and defending champion Hofstra will take on No. 6 seed Hartford in the championship match Sunday at 12 noon. The winner will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Against New Hampshire, the Blue Hens won five of the six singles matches to move on to the victory. Lee Kennedy won at No. 2 singles, Sean Kelly won at No. 3, Sanjay Khindri won at No. 4, Ari Zweig won at No. 5, and John Fogelgren won at No. 6. Kennedy, Zweig, Khindri, and Fogelgren also evened their singles records to 6-6 on the season.

In doubles, the Hens got wins from Dave Mouber and Kennedy at No. 1 and from Zweig and Pat Seitz at No. 3. Seitz and Zweig improved to 6-6 with their fourth straight win.
