Blue Hens Fall in Florida Trip Opener

BABSON PARK, FL - The University of Delaware men's tennis team opened its annual spring trip to Florida with a 9-0 loss to host Webber College Monday afternoon.

The Blue Hens, who fell to 1-3 on the season, will continue play Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. vs. Portland State at Grenelefe Country Club in Haines City, FL. The Blue Hen women (0-2) will also take on Portland State in their Florida opener Tuesday. Both Delaware teams will continue play Wednesday at St. Leo College.

Webber won all six singles matches in straight sets and swept the three doubles matches to post the victory.

In singles action, Webber's Robert Royt defeated the Blue Hens' David Mouber 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot; Fernando Murcia defeated Lee Kennedy 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2; Alex Ohoni beat Sean Kelly 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) at No. 3; Thorsten Tham downed Sanjay Khindri 6-4, 6-1at No. 4; Nicholas Nemeth won over Ari Zweig 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5; and Thomas Burgstaller defeated John Fogelgren 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot.

The closest doubles match came at the No. 3 spot where Delaware's team of Zweig and Pat Seitz fell 8-5 to Tham and Burgstaller.
