Blue Hens Get Back on Winning Track; Kennedy Cracks Top 10

Lee Kennedy won his 42nd career singles match to move into 10th place all-time at Delaware

FAIRFAX, VA - Both the University of Delaware men's and women's tennis teams got back into the winners column Wednesday afternoon as the Blue Hens swept Colonial Athletic Association foe George Mason by identical 6-1 scores.

The Delaware women (4-10, 1-2 CAA) snapped a 10-match losing streak with their first win of the spring season and first since a 6-1 victory over LaSalle Oct. 7. The Blue Hen men (7-6, 1-0 CAA) ended a four-match losing streak.

Both UD teams were playing for the first time since April 5 as the George Mason match was postponed twice earlier. Both teams will host CAA rival Hofstra Friday afternoon. George Mason fell to 2-17 (0- 3 CAA) on the men's side and 2-11 (0-4 CAA) on the women's side.

In the men's match, Delaware also won five of the six singles matches, as Sanjay Khindri (Emmaus/Macungie, PA) won at No. 1, Robert Wirth (Saddlebrook, Fla./Sydney, Australia) at No. 3, Lee Kennedy (North Mecklenburg/Cornelius, NC) at No. 4, Dustin Lewis (Orange/Pepper Pike, OH) at No. 5, and David Mouber (Moorestown Friends/Mt. Laurel, NJ) at No. 6.

Khindri and John Tully (Pittsford Sutherland/Pittsford, NY) teamed for a win at No. 1 doubles and Kennedy and Mouber teamed for a win at the No. 3 spot.

Lewis improved to a team-best 11-7 in singles this season while Kennedy improved to 10-6 and won his 42nd career singles match, moving into 10th place all-time at Delaware.

The Delaware women posted a 6-1 win as they captured five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets. Elly Giese (National Cathedral/Washington, DC) won at No. 1 singles while Anisha Talati (Hillsborough/Bellemead, NJ) won at No. 3, Martine Street (Williams/Burlington, NC) was a winner at No. 4, Christine Knox (William Penn/New Castle, DE) posted a win at No. 5, and Beth Principe (Watchung Hills/Warren, NJ) won at No. 6.

Giese won her team-high 10th singles match of the season while Knox improved to 9-4 on the year. Giese also earned her 50th career victory, becoming only the fifth player in UD history to reach the milestone.
