Mouber, Zweig Pick Up Singles Wins in Blue Hen Loss

 

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Dave Mouber and Ari Zweig picked up singles victories but it wasn't enough as host University of Maryland posted a 5-2 non-league men's tennis victory over the University of Delaware Saturday afternoon.

The Terrapins improved to 5-3 on the season as they won each of the first four singles matches and swept the three doubles matches to down the Hens. Delaware, playing its second match of the spring, fell to 6-3 with its first loss since October. The Blue Hens will resume action March 20 at Bucknell.

Maryland won the first four singles matches as Haris Causevic downed Sanjay Khindri at the No. 1 spot, Chris Chiu downed Jon Tully at No. 2, Troy Demers ousted Robert Wirth at No. 3, and David Reichsfeld upended Dustin Lewis at No. 4.

The Blue Hens picked up their only victories in the final two singles matches as Mouber posted a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 win over Greg Chambers at the No. 5 position and Zweig downed Jeff Fink 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 6 spot. Mouber and Zweig are both 2-0 in singles play this spring.

Delaware's doubles teams of Khindri and Tully, Wirth and Sean Kelly, and Mouber and Zweig all fell to the Terrapins with Mouber and Zweig being edged 8-6 by Maryland's Chambers and Chiu.
