DELAND, FL -- The University of
Delaware men's and women's tennis teams concluded their
annual trip to Florida by falling to host Stetson University
Friday afternoon.
The Delaware men dropped their fourth
straight match with 5-2 setback to the Hatters while the
Blue Hen women (3-10) suffered their 10th straight loss with
a 4-3 setback to Stetson. Both Blue Hen teams return to
action Apr. 8 at Colonial Athletic Association foe George
Mason.
The Stetson men won their seventh
straight to improve to 16-5 while the Hatter women moved to
6-14 with their second straight victory.
The Delaware men posted both of their
victories in singles as Sanjay Khindri
(Emmaus/Macungie, PA) posted a 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 win over
Stetson's Vittorio Fratta at No. 1 singles and David
Mouber (Moorestown Friends/Mt. Laurel, NJ) was a 6-1,
6-2 winner over Bryan Coyle at the No. 6 spot.
In the women's match, Delaware won three
of the six singles matches but Stetson clinched the win by
winning two of the three doubles competitions for the
doubles point.
For the Blue Hens, Christine Knox
(William Penn/New Castle, DE) posted a 6-4, 6-0 win over
Christina Homan at the No. 4 spot, Beth Principe (Watchung
Hills/Warren, NJ) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Patti West at
the No. 5 spot, and Julia Shapiro (Baldwin/Baldwin, NY)
downed Katie Hoefling, 6-2, 6-4. Knox improved to 8-4 on the
season while Shapiro picked up her first singles victory in
seven tries this season.
Knox and Shapiro also combined for a 9-7
victory at the No. 3 doubles spot for the Blue Hens.
