September 14-15, 2002 Blue Hens Split Four Matches in Season Opening Tournament
TOWSON, MD - The University of Delaware men's tennis team opened up the 2002-2003 campaign by splitting four matches at the season -opening Towson University Invitational this past weekend. The Blue Hens (2-2), opening their 91st season since 1909, lost to Villanova 5-0 and defeated Monmouth 5-0 on Friday before falling to Saint Joseph's 5-0 and defeating the host Tigers 4-1 on Saturday. The Hens swept the five matches in the win over Monmouth as sophomore John Tully, junior Sanjay Khindri, senior Lee Kennedy, and freshman Adam Liebman all won their matches. Delaware's doubles team of junior Ari Zweig and Dustin Lewis was also a winner. The Hens also swept the four singles matches in their win over Towson as Tully, Kennedy, Liebman, and Lewis were all winners. Towson picked up its lone win in doubles as Dan Seltzer and Matt Shore downed Zweig and freshman Josh Ditman by a 7-5, 6-7 (5), 10-7 score. Kennedy improved his career singles record to 46-26, moving into seventh place on the all-time win list at Delaware. Jon Zolin, who went 57-5 from 1971-75, holds the Blue Hen record for career singles wins. The Blue Hens will return to action Sept. 22 when they host Swarthmore at the Delaware Field House Courts.
