Tully Wins Final Match of the Day to Secure Win for UD

NEWARK, DE - University of Delaware sophomore John Tully defeated Villanova's Brad Adams 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 at the No. 1 singles spot in the final match of the day to clinch a 4-3 victory for the Blue Hens in a non-league men's tennis match Wednesday at the Delaware Field House Courts.

Tully (Sutherland/Pittsford, NY) improved to 4-2 on the season and helped Delaware capture its third straight match of the fall season to improve to 4-2. The Blue Hens, who fell to Villanova 5-0 in the season opener Sept. 13 at the Towson University Tournament, defeated the Wildcats for the first time since 1997 after six straight losses.

After Villanova claimed the doubles point by sweeping the three matches, the Blue Hens rallied to win the match by capturing four of the six singles matches.

Earning singles wins for the Blue Hens were Tully, freshman Adam Liebman at No. 3, Dustin Lewis at No. 5, and Josh Ditman at No. 6. Liebman rallied to post a 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2 win over Ricardo Baraldi at No. 3, Lewis improved to 3-1 on the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jon Toppel at the No. 5 spot, and Ditman improved to 2-0 with a straight set 6-1, 6-1 win over Sean Gallagher.

Delaware senior Lee Kennedy (North Mecklenburg/Cornelius, NC) lost a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 decision to Carl Fenzl at the No. 4 spot but extended his school record for career singles matches played to 74. Kennedy, who is now 47-27 all-time, broke the mark of 71 set by David Mouber last season.

Delaware will return to action Oct. 6 when the Blue Hens host LaSalle University.
