Hens Take Four Singles Matches to Edge Out Rams

WEST CHESTER, PA -- The University of Delaware women won all nine matches to post a 7-0 shutout and the Blue Hen men edged out a 4-3 victory as Delaware swept host West Chester University in a pair of non-league tennis matches Wednesday afternoon.

The Delaware women improved to 2-0 on the season as they downed the Rams for the 11th straight time. The Blue Hen men, making their dual meet debut, improved to 1-0 as they captured four of the six singles matches to clinch the close victory. Delaware has defeated WCU 12 straight times on the men's side.

Picking up singles wins for the Delaware women were Elly Giese, Jessica Wilkes, Martine Street, Anisha Talati, Danielle Wall, and Jessica Quittman. In doubles play, the Hens swept all three matches as Giese and Wilkes teamed at No. 1, Street and Wall won at No. 2, and Quittman and Talati won by default at the No. 3 spot.

The Delaware men did not have it quite as easy as the Hens lost the the doubles point but came back to win four of the six matches to post the win.

Earning singles wins for the Hens were John Tully at No. 2, Lee Kennedy at No. 3, Dustin Lewis at No. 4, and Jason Rabinowitz at No. 6. Delaware claimed its only doubles win at the No. 2 spot where Sanjay Khindri and Kennedy teamed for an 8-3 win over John Considine and Dan Phipps.

Both the Delaware men and women will continue dual action Saturday at LaSalle University.
