Blue Hens Fall in Late Night Match

ELKTON, MD -- Hofstra University swept the three doubles matches and won four of the six singles matchups to post a 5-2 Colonial Athletic Association men’s tennis victory over the University of Delaware Friday night.

Due to weather conditions, the match was moved from the Delaware Field House Courts outdoors to the Elkton Indoor Tennis Courts 15 minutes away. The match was also moved back from a 3 p.m. starting time to 9 p.m. and did not finish until after midnight.

Delaware suffered its fourth setback in the last five outings and fell to 10-12 overall and 3-4 in CAA action. Hofstra improved to 5-3-1 (2-0 CAA).

The Blue Hens got their only victories in singles where No. 2 player Sanjay Khindri posted a 5-7, 6-1, 10-2 win over Hofstra’s Rodrigo Teixeira and at the No. 6 spot where Philip Wayne, playing in only his fourth singles match of the season, downed Robert Sforzo 6-3, 3-3 (7-1). The two played a tie-breaker because the overall outcome of the match had already been decided.

Hofstra picked up singles victories from Nikola Djordjevic at No. 1, Matt Schor at No. 3, Jared Coggan at No. 4, and Gary Galt at No. 5.

Delaware will continue action Saturday when it hosts CAA foe James Madison at 3 p.m. at the Delaware Field House Courts.
