Blue Hens Get Four Singles Wins; Sweep Doubles

BETHLEHEM, PA - The University of Delaware tennis teams split a pair of matches at Lehigh University Saturday with the Blue Hen men posting a 5-2 victory and the UD women opening their spring season with a 4-3 setback to the Mountain Hawks.

The Delaware men, playing for the first time since Jan. 26, snapped a three-match losing streak and improved to 6-5 on the season as the Hens won four singles matches and earned the doubles point with two wins. Lehigh fell to 4-2.

On the women's side, the Blue Hens were playing for the first time since Oct. 12 and fell to 2-3 on the year as Lehigh (4-2) clinched the win by sweeping the three doubles matches.

For the Delaware men, No. 2 player Sanjay Khindri, No. 4 Dustin Lewis, No. 5 Adam Liebman, and No. 6 Josh Ditman all captured singles victories. The Hens also won two of the three doubles matches as Khindri and Ditman teamed for an 8-5 win at the No. 2 spot and Ari Zweig and Patrick Seitz teamed for a 9-7 victory at the No. 3 spot.

At No. 2 doubles, Delaware's Ditman teamed with Khindri to down Randall Smalley and his brother, Craig Ditman.

Lehigh clinched the women's win as they swept the three doubles matches to earn the point and then split the six singles matches with the Blue Hens.

Capturing singles wins for the Blue Hens were senior captain Christine Knox at No. 2 with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 win over Jamie Fass, Stefanie Riddle posted a 6-2, 7-6, 7-5 win over Lehigh's Danielle Suchow at No. 5, and Julia Shapiro downed Lehigh's Alina Kors 3-6, 6-1, 2-2 (10-7 tie breaker) at the No. 6 spot.

The UD men return to action March 9 at Maryland while the Delaware women take on Lafayette on March 11 in their next match.
