January 25, 2003 Hens Fall to East Tennessee, VCU to Open Spring Season
RICHMOND, VA -- The University of Delaware men's tennis team opened up its 2003 spring season with 5-0 loss to East Tennessee State and host Virginia Commonwealth in the first day of the VCU Invitational Saturday at the Thalhimer Tennis Center. The Blue Hens (5-4), who had a four-match win streak from last fall snapped, will close out action at the tournament Sunday at 10 a.m. when Delaware takes on Colonial Athletic Association foe Old Dominion at 11 a.m. East Tennessee State swept all five matches in the Hens' first action of the day as Diego Iglesias downed Delaware's John Tully 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1, Alejandro Salazar downed Delaware's Sanjay Khindri 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2, Moises Serrano downed Robert Wirth 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3, and Fernando Fiuri defeated Dustin Lewis 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot. ETSU won the only doubles match as the team of Marcos Pavlovich and Federico Ochoa downed Adam Liebman and Josh Ditman, 7-5, 6-3. Virginia Commonwealth also swept the Blue Hens with five straight set victories. The closest match came at No. 2 singles where Khindri lost 6-2, 6-4. AGATE: East Tennessee State def.
