Tully Wins Big Twice, But Wildcats Hold On for Victory

VILLANOVA, PA -- University of Delaware junior John Tully won at both singles and doubles for the Blue Hens but it wasn't enough as host Villanova toppled the Hens 4-1 in a rain-shortened non-league men's tennis match Thursday afternoon.

Tully remained unbeaten in singles action at 4-0 this season as he downed Villanova's John Toppel 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 singles spot for the Hens' lone singles win. He then teamed with Sanjay Khindri to post an 8-3 win over the Villanova team of Aaron Kusza and Lucas Kaster at the No. 1 doubles position.

In other singles action, Villanova's Baraldi downed Delaware's Adam Liebman 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot, Angel Rubio upended Delaware's Mike Riisen 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 5 spot, and David Harring defeated Delaware's Philip Wayne 7-6 (9-7), 6-1 at No. 6.

Khindri, at No. 1 singles, and Josh Ditman, at No. 4 singles, did not finish their matches due to rain.

Delaware, which was playing its first dual match of the season, continues play Sunday at Bucknell at 12:30 p.m. in Lewisburg, PA.
