Wirth, Carl, and Hanschman Each Win Two as
Hens Down Villanova 6-1 in Fall Dual

-- The University of Delaware men's
tennis team opened up its 2004 fall dual
match season with a 6-1 non-league victory
over Villanova Friday afternoon at the
Delaware Field House Courts.
The Blue
Hens (1-0) captured five of the six
singles matches and two of the three
doubles competitions to post the victory.
The match was originally scheduled for
Thursday but was postponed due to
rain.
Delaware
downed the Wildcats for just the second
time in the last nine meetings since
1998.
John
Tully, Robert Wirth, Jesse Carl, and Jason
Hanschman were all double winners on the
day for the Blue Hens. Tully downed Aaron
Kusza 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 singles spot,
Wirth downed Tony Sorucco 6-4, 6-2 at No.
5 singles, Carl was a 6-3, 6-3 winner of
Jorge Rodriguez at No. 4 singles, and
Hanschman was a 6-3, 6-3 winner of Sean
Gallagher at the No. 6 spot.
Tully and
Wirth then teamed for an 8-4 win over
Ricardo Baraldi and Rodriguez at No. 2
doubles and Carl and Hanschman were 9-7
winners over Kusza and Dimitri Chimerakis
at the No. 1 doubles spot. Delaware got
its other win at No. 3 singles where Josh
Ditman was a 6-1, 6-4 winner.
Tully, a
senior co-captain, improved to 4-1 on the
season and to 46-35 in his career, moving
into sole possession of eighth place on
the all-time UD singles wins list.
