NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis teams competed in the Hampton Roads Collegiate Tennis Invitational of Newport News Friday through Sunday.

Top honors for the men included Andrew Blumberg, who went 4-1 on the weekend and picked up the men’s D singles consolation crown by defeating Loyola’s Chris Langley 8-3 in the finals. Another Blue Hen making it to the finals was Camilo Perez who fell to Eric Caudill of Virginia Wesleyan, 8-3, in the men’s C singles consolation final.

The doubles team of Amit Kapur (right) and Jon Schwartz posted a record of 3-1 on the weekend as it advanced to the men’s D doubles final before falling to Washington College’s Rafael Roldan and Arturo Solis, 8-0.

On the ladies side, Kristen Mueller went 3-1 in singles play and reached the women’s C-2 singles finals before losing to Becky Morse-Karzen of Mary Washington 8-2.

In doubles play, the dynamic duo of Susan Pollack and Amanda Campbell won two more matches to advance to the women’s A doubles semifinal before taking their first loss of the season, 8-2, to Radka Ferancova and Yuri Kurashima of Temple. Pollack and Campbell are now 11-1 on the year. Two other doubles teams did reach the finals as Elena Berry and Alexa Dragonette were downed by Magda Bresson and Klaudyna Kasztelaniec of William & Mary, 8-1, in the women’s B doubles final and Brittany Barsky and Julie Schiller also fell to Carmen Pop and Lauren Sabacinski of William & Mary, 8-3, in the women’s C doubles final.

The Delaware men will return to action Thursday when the Blue Hens travel to the University of Pennsylvania for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Fall Regionals. The women will compete in the same tournament starting on Friday at Dartmouth.
