HARRISONBURG, VA -- The University of Delaware men's tennis team remained undefeated in Colonial Athletic Association play with a 5-1 victory over Hofstra on Friday, the first day of the CAA round-robin weekend hosted by James Madison University.
The teams played singles matches only due to weather concerns.
Delaware got off to a good start at first singles, where sophomore Austin Longacre (at right) notched his 20th win of the season with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over the Pride's Luka Djordjevic. Longacre needs just two more singles victories to break Jon Zolin's 34-year-old single-season school record.
The Blue Hens (8-4, 3-0 CAA), winners of two straight and seven of their last eight matches, also got an impressive 6-2, 6-2 win at second singles from junior Nolan Greenberg, who downed Hofstra's Nenad Radakovic. Sophomore No. 3 Sam Barrer fell to Stian Tvedt 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, but freshman Chris Hincker breezed by Matt Wacks by a 6-3, 6-3 tally at the fourth slot.
With the win, Hincker tied Jason Hanschmann's UD mark for singles victories by a freshman with 18.
In other singles action, senior Jonathan Schwartz outlasted HU's Tytus Stempniewicz in a 6-7 (9-11), 7-6 (7-5), 10-5 marathon at No. 5, while sophomore Camilo Perez rallied past Alex Hosner in a 0-6, 6-2, 6-2 sixth-singles decision.
The men's squad, which defeated Hofstra for the third consecutive year, returns to the court on Saturday against James Madison.
